San Juan-Chama
Water Accounting
Albuquerque Area,Office
September 1998

The natural inflow into Heron Reservoir during the month of
September was computed to be 535 acre-feet (AF) as shown in Table
3. There were 1386 AF net San Juan-Chama (SJ-C) losses, as shown
in Table 2. There was 258 AF diverted through Azotea Tunnel this
month.

There was a total of 535 AF of Natural (RG) released from Heron.
There was a total of 10,945 AF of SJ-C water released from
Heron,of which 3559 were delivered to the City of Albuquerque
Pool in Abiquiu; 2596 AF were purchased by USBR from the City of
Santa Fe and released for Middle Rio Grande water management; and
4990 AF represented a pool of uncontracted water that was
released for Middle Rio Grande water management. There was a
total of 29,277 AF of SJ-C releases from EI Vado, all of which
were released from the MRGCD pool for irrigation demand and
payback to the City of Albuquerque pool in Abiquiu. Of this
amount, 1209 AF represented payback to the City.

Due to the requirement to hold Abiquiu at a constant elevation of
6210 ft, as a result of work being conducted on the emergency
gates, there were no releases of SJ-C water from storage.

There was 1.06 inches of precipitation at Heron Reservoir, which
is 62% of the August (running) average of 1.70 inches. The
monthly computations for Heron Reservoir are summarized in Tables
1-3.

Total inflow into Nambe Falls Reservoir was computed to be 602
AF. There were 0,4 AF of losses on the reservoir. Table 4
summarizes San Juan-Chama water at Otowi.

Estimated sediment deposition in the San Juan-Chama pools at
Abiquiuu and Jemez Canyon Reservoirs, and Cochiti Lake are
presented in Tables 5A-5C. Storage and evaporation of Rio Grande
water in EI Vado and Abiquiu Reservoirs are shown in Table 6.

All data are provisional and subject to revision as final data
are collected and analyzed.
