San Juan-Chama
Water Accounting
Albuquerque Area Office
July 1998

The natural inflow into Heron Reservoir during the month of July
was computed to be 154 acre-feet (AF) as shown in Table 3. There
were 1367 AF net San Juan-Chama (SJ-C) losses, as shown in Table 2.
There was 17580 AF diverted through Azotea Tunnel this month.

There was a total of 164 AF of Natural (RG) released from Heron.
There was ,a total of 9546 AF of SJ-C water released from Heron, all
of which were delivered to the City of Albuquerque pool in Abiquiu.
There was a total of 918 AF of SJ-C releases from EI Vado, all of
which represented payback by the MRGCD to the City of Albuquerque
Pool in Abiquiu.

There was 11692 AF of SJ-C water released from Abiquiu, of which
5328 AF was borrowed from the City of Albuquerque pool by MRGCD.
The remaining 6364 AF was released from the City of Albuquerque
pool in support of Middle Rio Grande Valley water management.

There was 2.37 inches of precipitation at Heron Reservoir, which is
136% of the July (running) average of 1. 74 inches. The monthly
computations for Heron Reservoir are summarized in Tables 1-3. As
in the months of May and June, Table 1 shows significant negative
tributary inflows above Heron Reservoir. After discussing this
issue with our Chama Office and examining their quality assurance
procedures, we believe te measurements made at the Azotea Tunnel
outlet and Lower Willow Creek gages are reasonable. Although the
high negative values are physically meaningless, we are comfortable
with the data measurement techniques being used.

Total inflow into Nambe Falls Reservoir was computed to be 1061 AF.
There were 2.7 AF of losses on the reservoir. Table 4 summarizes
San Juan-Chama water at Otowi.

Estimated sediment deposition in the San Juan-Chama pools at
Abiquiuu and Jemez Canyon Reservoirs, and Cochiti Lake are
presented in Tables 5A-5C. Storage and evaporation of Rio Grande
water in EI Vado and Abiquiuu Reservoirs are shown in Table 6.

All data are provisional and subject to revision as final data are
collected and analyzed.
