.

.

.

A. Objectives:

1. To evaluate the effects of various reclamation treatments on
the stand of bromegrass.
2. To evaluate the effects of gypsum, leaching, and fertilizer
treatments on the yield of bromegrass.

B. General Procedure:

1. Land preparation -
a. All formerly established plots will be reworked and dikes
constructed.
b. An irrigation of approximately 4 A.-in. will be applied to
all plots preparatory for seeding operation.
2. Amendments - No additions of amendments will be made.
3. LeaChing - No additional leachings will be made.
4. Fertilizer-
a. Some of the plots received 50 Ib./A. of N and 169 Ib./A.
of P205 in 1954.
b. No additional phosphorus fertilizer will be added.
c. An additional 40 Ib./A. of P will be applied to the plots
which received N fertilizer in 1954.
5. Planting-
a. The plots will. be seeded with Lyon bromegrass about the
middle of Nay.
b. The grass will be seeded in 12-inch rows.
6. l-later-table level - The water table will be maintained at 22
inches, if possible. The water-table level will be dependent
upon the control of the level of the main plots.
1. Surface irrigation - The amount of surface irrigation will
depend somewhat on the amount of subirrigation from the water-
table level. Plots will be surface irrigated often enough to
maintain good gr010Jth conditions.
8. Yield results -
a. Notes on emergence and stand will be taken in 1951.
b. Portions of the plots will be harvested after flowering
and yield determinations .rill be made in 1958.
9. Statistical analysis - The yield data will be analyzed
statistically for treatment effects.

VIII. Experiment V - ('\rass Nursery:

A. Objectives for 1951:

To continue to evaluate the stand and yield of the varieties
of grasses in the study.

B. General Procedure:

The grass nursery was established in 1954. No change of:

1. Amendments
2. Land preparation

r ..\ r ':" r."
