The USGS reported that,

during the summer months of 1997-98, the specific conductance in

the river below the reservoir averaged about 2,000 microsiemens

per centimeter (uS/em) and about 3,120 uS/em in the River near

Granada.

"Specific conductance is a measure of dissolved-solids

or salts in the water, and water containing more than 2,000 uS/em

is Class C4 water, the U,S. Salinity Lab's highest classification

for salinity hazard", stated Jim Valliant, regional irrigation

specialist for Colorado State University

cooperative Extension.

Alfalfa, grain sorghum and

being reduced by salinity.

Corn is one of the

:~

~~.P^

wheat, some of the more salt tolerant crops, are

being grown in the area and still crop yields are

Colorado State Unlvcrsity. u.s.
