<br />~, 000505 <br /> <br />A trash screen is being installed in a ditch on the Leonard and Milton Rink farm to reduce <br />clogging of the gated pipe where crops are being irrigated with river water. Without screening, <br />many of the gates are clogged with trash and prevents uniform irrigation of the crops, This screen <br />is a stainless steel wedge wire screen that is basically self cleaning using the velocity and <br />turbulence of the water, Surge irrigation vs, conventional irrigation demonstration is also being <br />demonstrated on a corn field on the Rink farm, <br /> <br />The Northeast Prowers Soil Conservation District will be cooperating with Jim Valliant, regional <br />irrigation specialist with Colorado State University Cooperative Extension, to hold a BMP Field <br />tour on the morning of July 22, 1999 from 8:30 am till noon, The group will tour the Holly Drain <br />work, the Paul Frank center pivot, the Cory Thompson PAM and the Bub McGee surgefP AM <br />demonstrations, The tour will end at the Gateway Park in Holly with a talk by Dr, Tim Gates of <br />the Civil Engineering Department at CSU discussing the. salinity study he is doing in the Otero- <br />Bent County area and the results of the salinity survey on the Paul Frank center pivot. <br /> <br />CWCBHPR6,99 <br />
