<br />18 <br /> <br />10~}'; <br />~I DAM AND RESERVOIR, COLO. <br /> <br />Authority to make this report and ~upport.ing- investigations is pro~ <br />vided in the Federal reclamation laws (act of .Jnne 17, 1902, :32 Stat. <br />388, and acts amendatory thereof or supplemental',\" thereto). <br /> <br />rUHl'OSE OF RErOUT <br /> <br />This report is limited to analyses of Ruedi Dam and Reservoir "'.td <br />appraisal of potential western slope llSes of wa.te~ from the l:e~e!'volr. <br />It is not. within the scope of the report t,o reexamme the fefLslblht.y of <br />the Fryingpnn-Al'knnsas project in the. light of CUl'r~Ht cost estima.tt;S, <br />present policies and procedures. and ,the latest a\'alhtbl~ hydrologic, <br />engineermg, and economIC data. :;uch evaluat,lOll wIll be made <br />separately. <br />Because of limitations of time and investigation funds, the studies <br />and estimates underlying the report, are of reconnaissance grade. <br />Should the Fryingp"n-Arkansas project be authorized with Rnedi <br />Dalu and Reservoir as an integral feature, it wjll be necessary to pro- <br />gram and conduct further studies of all potential uses to determine <br />the most beneficial and desirable operating piau for the reservoir. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />l\CKNOWLEOOEUENTS <br /> <br />Through the Colorado 'Vater Conservation Bontu, the State of <br />Colorado has contributed funds for investigations required for this <br />report and for the reexamination of the Fryingpan-Arkansas project, <br />the results of which will be prescnted to committees of Congress next <br />year, Responsible field offices of the Corps of Engineers, Department <br />of the Anny, and the National Park Service and Fish anu Wildlife <br />Service, both of the Depart.ment of the Interior, hn.ve conducted re- <br />connaissance in the fields of flood control, recreation, and fish and <br />wildlife, respectively. The Forest Service, Department of Agricul. <br />ture, was "onsulted by the National Park Service on recreation aspects <br />of the Ruedi Dam and Reser..oir. The Colorado Department of <br />Game and Fish has coJlaooruted with the Fish and Wildlife Service <br />in studies for this report. <br />The Colorado Water Conservation District has prepared material <br />on irrigation of the potential Basalt project (Cattle Creek unit and <br />part of Mount Sopri. unit both of the Federal Cliffs.Divide project). <br />The Bureau of Reclamation has not had the funds and time to review <br />or evaluate this material on the Basalt project. <br />, Region 4 of the Bureau of Reclamation in Salt Lake City and its <br />project office in Grand Junction, Colo., have reviewed and summarized <br />the municipal and industria' water studies of the State of Colorado <br />and have prepared sections of this report on alternative uses of water <br />for irrigat.ion. <br />HISTORY AND BACKGROUND <br /> <br />During the. original feasibility investigations of the Frying-pan. <br />Arkansas project the Colorado 'Vater Conservation Board organized <br />a policy a~d review committee to study and review plans and're,ports <br />on the proJect.
