I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

'~." ...., ~ 'I
"., - -, "-

Division I, we took several steps to ensure the quality of the

data. First, we did the reasonable check, we proofed the com-

puter call file printouts against the Division Engineer's call

records. Second, we identified and listed water rights located

on the main stem of the South Platte River. We then took the

priority dates associated with these rights and wrote a computer

program to search the computerized call file to find any calls

with priority dates not to be found from our list. This enabled:

us to make obvious corrections to data due to the illegibility Of

some of the Division Engineer's call records. After such cortec!-

tions some odd calls still existed, but we accepted them on th~

basis that the river system was apparently administered with

those odd'calls.

Third, we obtained and integrated data from Joe T. Clayton"s

(Water Commissioner for District 8) personal log book into our

computer file. The major effect here was to supplement data in

the file for Water District 8, and to a lesser extent for Water

Districts 23 and 80.

Last and most difficult, certain changes in the method and:

terminology of recording of calls for the years 1972 through ~97!9

rendered the interpretation of some of the Division Engineer's

call records for periods within these years questionable. We

discussed: these problems with the Water Commissioner for Districit

8 (Joe T. Clayton), with the Assistant Division Engineer for

Division I (Ed Blank), and with the Division Engineer for

Division I (Jim Clark). unfortunately sorne of these interpreta:

, :
tive questions remain, although use of the Water Commissioner's:

log resol~ed some questions.

A-7

.
