Information and Education Activities <br />1. The fOllowing is a list of identified educational activities. <br />a. Create a mailing list of all water users in project area. <br />b. Prepare informational packets on Colorado River Basin <br />Salinity Control Program. <br />c. Prepare slide tape series on project, present to water <br />users, private lending institutions and other interested <br />groups; <br />d. Individual visits. <br />e. Initiate demonstration plot to provide water users <br />information on improved water management. <br />f. Conduct informational meetings. <br />g. Periodic newsletter. <br />h. Coordination of informational activities on wetlands and <br />wildlife habitat with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and, <br />Colorado Division of wildlife. <br />i. Tours, reports, publicity, etc.. <br />j. Special emphasis in newspaper articles, ASCS newsletter <br />and District newsletter will be placed on informing the <br />minority and limited resource farmers of cost share <br />opportunities available through the salinity program. <br /> <br />Activities listed above have been started by the Extension Agent <br />(Irrigation) at Delta, CO. Mailing list has been prepared. <br />Announcements, informational packets on Colorado River Basin Salinity <br />Control Program have been mailed to the clientele. Demonstrationon <br />surge irrigation has been established. Field visits and information <br />meetings are being held by Extension Agent (Irrigation) Delta, <br />Colorado. Fund allocation for extension activities have been cleared <br />in March, 1991. Hiring an Extension Agent (Irrigation) for Montrose <br />is being initiated. <br /> <br />D. priority Areas and Prioritizing <br />1. Criteria for rating priority areas within the Lower Gunnison <br />#2 (MCO) Project Area is based on the salt load measured from <br />certain locations within these watersheds. Each watershed is <br />given a point rating factor based on the salt loading <br />measurements with the highest receiving the most points. See <br />attachment 3 rating factors. <br />2.
