copy

O~19J4

2

would be available for diversion to the Arkansas basin.
Estimates of the average May-July water production originating
above the collection system for the combined sub-areas were made
for variable water supply conditions such as have occured in
historic periods as follows:

Period

May-July Runoff Above Collection System

1911-1953
1934-1953
1931-1940

82,000
74,000
66,000

acre feet

acre feet

acre feet

....

The portion of this runoff which it would be
practicable to divert would depend on the capacities of the
various units of the collection system, including the
regulatory reservoir, and the difficulties which might be
encountered in opening the collection canals in time to
intercept all the Mayiunoff. It is not always economically
practicable to construct canals of sufficient capacity to
carry the peak daily runoff during years with water supplies
considerably above average. As a matter of judgement, it
was estimated by the staff that this project could reasonably
be expected to deliver an average of some 60,000 to 65,000
.acre-feet to the Lake Fork of the Arkansas River.

Very truly yours,

Ivan C. Crawford
Director, Colorado Water Conservation Board

ICC:kc
