Gildersleeve

Water Available for Homestake Creek Diversion as filed
on by John F. Elliott. Consulting Engineer
At Mr. Elliott.s request. you instructed the engineering staff
of the Colorado Water Conservation Board. to make an estimate of the
water supply available for a transbasin diversion from Homestake
Creek to the Arkanaaa River basin. for which filln~ have been made
by him in the State Engineer.s office.
Mr. Elliott furnished UlI with a map 01\ whioh was outliued the
drainaqe areas which would be intercepted by the proposed system of
tunnels and canals. A dam and ~enoir are included in the plan at
the terminus of the oollection system. A tlUlnelapprox1ma.tely five

siles in length would extend from the reservoir to Lake Fork. in the
Ark4IUllls basin. about three miles above the existing Sugar Lo&.f .'"
Reservoir (T\Uq\1oiae Lake). at an elevation of about 10.000 feet.
The total systeJll drainaqe area _s divided into two sub-
areas, designated as Areu 1 and 2. The water production al::Io'nJ the
colleotion system for Area. 1 may be determined throuqh records of
runoff at a gaging station on Homestake Creek at Gold Park, which
baa been operated since October, 1947. The collection canal on the
west side of HOII1estake Creek for this sub-area taps Frenoh Creel::,
~hich enters Homestake Creek a short distance above the gaging
station. On the east side, the collection cana.l intercepts a
minor tributary which enters Homestake Creek just below the qaqe.
