PROTECTION OF GRAND CANYON NATIONAL PARK. <br />2 The Secretary of the Interior shall operate Glen Canyon <br />3 Dam in such a manner as to protect, mitigate adverse im- <br />4 pacts to, and improve the conditions of the natural resources <br />5 of Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon National <br />6 Recreation Area, under operating criteria that are consistent <br />7 with the water storage and delivery functions of Glen <br />8 Canyon Dam pursuant to the Colorado River Compact, the <br />9 Upper Colorado River Basin Compact, consented to by the <br />10 Act of April 6, 1949 (63 Stat. 31, chapter 48), and other <br />11 laws relating to allocation of the Colorado River. <br />12 SEC. 4. INTERIM POWER OPERATING CRITERIA FOR GLEN <br /> <br />13 CANYON DAM. <br />14 (a) IN GENERAL.-(I) Not later than 30 days alter the <br />15 date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall determine <br />16 whether the scientific data that are available as of that date <br /> <br />17 are sufficient to permit the implementation of interim power <br />18 operating criteria for Glen Canyon Dam that would, without <br />19 impeding the conduct of research flows for the purpose of <br />20 completing the environmental impact statement, increase the <br />21 protection and improvement of the condition of the natural <br />22 resources of Grand Canyon National Park and Glen Canyon <br />23 National Recreation Area. <br /> <br />24 (2) If, pursuant to paragraph (1) the Secretary deter- <br />25 mines that the available scientific data are reasonably suffi- <br />26 cient to permit the implementation of the interim power oper- <br /> <br />.s 2807 IS <br />
