~
~
~
-J

Las Vegas Wash Unit. Reclamation advises that a

cost-effective option for salinity control in the Las Vegas

Wash at the Whitney verification site cannot be developed

at this time and recommends that further activities be

discontinued. The Council believes it is appropriate to

defer fu~ther investigational activities until such time as

developments in the Las Vegas Wash warrant additional

studies. However, the Council strongly urges that

Reclamation continue the necessary effluent monitoring

program established to identify and evaluate any Qhanges

that may be occurring in the ~ash.

Dolores Project (~cElmo Creek ~nit).

The Council

supports with the assignment of additional SCS staff to

coordinate closely with Reclamation's preconstruction

activities on this unit.

Lower Gunnison Basin Cnit. The Council finds that the

Lower Gunnison Winter ~ater Program is the most

cost-effective portion of any unit remaining to be

constructed. Local entities and the State of Colorado have

expended considerable effort to initiate of the winter

water portion of this unit. The participants are ready and

anxious to begin construction. Failure to proceed in 1988

will result in a significant setback in this prog~am by

discouraging local participation and support.

The Council

-7-

-.~
