<br />Price-San Rafael Rivers Unit. <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation <br /> <br />Service and Reclamation are evaluating the potential for a <br /> <br />joint and fully coordinated project for the two <br /> <br />agricultural sub-areas. <br /> <br />A viable plan has been identified <br /> <br />~ <br />~ which would replace open laterals with pipelines and make <br />~ <br />~ use of gravity pressure for on farm sprinkler irrigation <br /> <br />systems. <br /> <br />The Council supports this joint effort and <br /> <br />recommends that plan formulation be completed as soon as <br /> <br />possible so that construction of this unit can be <br /> <br />authorized. <br /> <br />Lower Vir.in River Unit. <br /> <br />Reclamation has a unique <br /> <br />opportunity, with limited time, to cooperate with \evada <br /> <br />Power Company in a joint effort for the use and disposal of <br /> <br />saline water for power plant cooling at the proposed Harry <br /> <br />Allen Power Plant near Las Vegas, Nevada. <br /> <br />Timing is extremely important in order that <br /> <br />Reclamation's study can be completed in time to mesh with <br /> <br />Nevada Power's proposed construction schedule. <br /> <br />Recent <br /> <br />studies done in cooperation with the Nevada Power Company <br /> <br />confirm the economic viability of the use of saline water <br /> <br />from the Lower Virgin River Unit. <br /> <br />Test wells are necessary <br /> <br />to determine if the available saline water supply is <br /> <br />adequate to meet the cooling water needs of the proposed <br /> <br />power plant. <br /> <br />The Council finds that it is extremely <br /> <br />-9- <br />
