This unit should be <br /> <br />given priority with adequate funding for Advanced Planning <br /> <br />.0 be initiated in FY 1985. <br /> <br />Palo Verde Irri~ation District Unit. The Council was <br /> <br />advised at its October meeting that Reclamation has <br /> <br />recommended that planning studies on this unit be deferred <br /> <br />and quantity and quality monitoring of the irrigation water <br /> <br />supply and drainage water from the Palo Verde irrigated <br /> <br />area be continued. The Council concurs in this <br /> <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />Further, the Council recommends that the <br /> <br />remaining funding for FY 1988 be shifted to the Lower <br /> <br />Virgin River Unit studies. <br /> <br />San Juan River Unit. A recently completed preliminary <br /> <br />study by Reclamation has shown that a potential exists for <br /> <br />salinity reduction in the San Juan River drainage in New <br /> <br />Mexico. <br /> <br />Irrigation delivery system improvements on the <br /> <br />Hammond Project offer a very favorable cost-effective <br /> <br />salinity control project. In addition to improvements on <br /> <br />the Hammond Project, reductions of salt load may be <br /> <br />p03sible from other irrigated areas and natural sources. <br /> <br />The Council recommends that Reclamation continue their <br /> <br />-10- <br />
