San- Juan <br />National Forest Supervisor. has <br />a~nounced Ih~t a public meeting <br />wlll be held In Pagosa Springs <br />January II 10 discus'! progress on <br />the Pif'dra Wild and Scenic River <br />Study. <br />The meeting is scheduled for <br />1:30 p.m. ".it the ~Iementary <br />school gymnasium. Walt Wf'mer. <br />study team leader. has prepared <br />an mlormarion sheet about the <br />findings of the study team to <br />date. The purpose of this team <br />has been to determine what <br />portions are eligible under law for <br />inclusion into the wild and scenic <br />river system. <br />Since the study was first <br />srarted additional legislation has <br />been introduced by Congn:s,>man <br />Evans removin~ Ihe tributaries of <br />the Piedra from mandatory study. <br />The Easl Fort and Middle Fork <br />and the main 'Ioi'em of the Piedra <br />are the only ones still listed to be <br />'IolUdied. <br />Werner said that this slu1y has <br />been comp1eted and that the <br />public meering will be used to air <br />the fmdings of the studv on <br />eligibility" One of the ~ain <br />p~rpos-es of the meeting is to <br />diSCUSS these findings.
