San- Juan National Forest Supervisor. has a~nounced Ih~t a public meeting wlll be held In Pagosa Springs January II 10 discus'! progress on the Pif'dra Wild and Scenic River Study. The meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ".it the ~Iementary school gymnasium. Walt Wf'mer. study team leader. has prepared an mlormarion sheet about the findings of the study team to date. The purpose of this team has been to determine what portions are eligible under law for inclusion into the wild and scenic river system. Since the study was first srarted additional legislation has been introduced by Congn:s,>man Evans removin~ Ihe tributaries of the Piedra from mandatory study. The Easl Fort and Middle Fork and the main 'Ioi'em of the Piedra are the only ones still listed to be 'IolUdied. Werner said that this slu1y has been comp1eted and that the public meering will be used to air the fmdings of the studv on eligibility" One of the ~ain p~rpos-es of the meeting is to diSCUSS these findings.
