Rio Fernando de Taos ditch system will serve 837 acres of presently

irrigated land. The total irrigated area will consist of 4,252 acres

of presently irrigated lands and 1,482 acres of new land.

Water samples taken from the three streams show dissolved solids
ranging from 212 to 264 parts per million. All are low in sodium,
with no boron present. The soils are relatively free of salts and are
well suited for irrigation, db a time weighted average, the quality
of water downstream will be better; and on a volume weighted
average, the quality will be a little worse because of evaporation
from the reservoir.

The Forest Service is planning a recreation complex, which will be
incorporated in the plan, consisting of a visitor information center,
campg;J;'ounds, picnicking facilities, poat facilities, and vista points.
Vista points will provide opportunities to view the surrounding areas.

The visitor information center will tell the story of the National
Forest and resource management methods, the history of Taos Valley,
and the historical Indian dwellings near the dam. Campgro~ds will
be provided and will be equipped with flush toilets, showers, tables,
cooking stoves, and electricity.

Picknicking facilities will be available for day-users. Boating
docks and perhaps rental boats for fishermen are also planned.
The Forest Service has made certain recommendations regarding
preservation of the environment, which will be incorporated in the
8
