<br />o <br />c':) <br />(~) <br />~~~ <br />c.n <br />(.c, <br /> <br />4.2.2 The Biolooy Committee <br /> <br />The Biology Committee will be responsible to the Oversight Committee for <br />reviewing priority research and recovery activities, work accomplishments, and <br />assessing progress toward recovery. One biologist from each of the represented <br />agencies/groups may serve on this committee. <br /> <br />The Biology Committee will select a chairman to facilitate meetings and to <br />respond to management concerns and Questions developed by the Oversight <br />Committee. Since the main focus of the group is to assess biological needs of <br />the fish and potential recovery actions, participants in this group should <br />have experience in native fish biology and management. <br /> <br />4.3 SERVICE RESPONSIBILITY <br /> <br />The Fish and Wildlife Service will be responsible for directing and <br />coordinating the overall recovery effort for endangered fishes in the San Juan <br />Basin. These responsibilities include: <br /> <br />1. preparing draft work plans for research and recovery activities in <br />coordination with other program participants; <br /> <br />2. developing and updating long range plans; <br /> <br />3. evaluating program/project accomplishments and shortcomings; <br /> <br />4. developing specific recovery goals for the San Juan River. <br /> <br />The Service will be responsible for coordinating activities with the Upper <br />Basin Recovery Implementation Program and the Colorado River Fishes Recovery <br />Team. <br /> <br />To accomplish these responsibilities the Service will appoint a Program <br />Coordinator for the San Juan Recovery Implementation Program. The Program <br />Coordinator will serve as staff to the Oversight Committee and be responsible <br /> <br />37 <br />
