This will be carried out by appropriate parties and <br />evaluated by the Service and the Oversight Committee. <br /> <br />3.7.2 Data Manaqement <br /> <br />Federal. State, and private agencies have collected extensive amounts of data <br />on the life history, behavior characteristics, and habitat requirements of <br />rare fish in the Upper Colorado Basin. The status and quality of these data <br />are quite variable. and improved management and analysis of these data are <br />priority management concerns. A centralized data management system has been <br />established for the Upper Basin RIP to make the best possible use of existing <br />data and ensure a coordinated and effective data management and analysis <br />effort in the future. Such a system is key to conducting cost-effective <br />research and monitoring programs. The San Juan data collections will be <br />included in the existing data management system for the Upper Basin. <br /> <br />3.7.3 Selected Course of Action <br /> <br />a. All monitoring and data management activities will be coordinated by the <br />Service and approved by the Oversight Committee. The Service will: <br /> <br />1. Assume data management responsibilities; <br /> <br />2. Coordinate monitoring responsibilities with the states; and <br /> <br />3. Define a process for periOdic review and management of monitoring <br />and data management activities. <br /> <br />b. The Service. in coordination with the States and private interests. will <br />establish a data management framework that will be compatible with and <br />included in the existing data management system for Upper Basin RIP. <br /> <br />c. The Service with the Oversight Committee approval will establish a long- <br />term monitoring program for evaluating the 5ta~Us and trends of rare <br />fish populations. <br /> <br />34 <br />
