Monitoring is needed
to track population status and trends and to define the overall success of the
recovery program. Appropriate Federal and State permits will be required for
monitoring the species. A data management system is needed to provide timely
analysis of research program data, to allow analysis and reporting of
monitori ng program data. and to generally be an i nformat ion resource for
directing management and recovery activities.

3.7.1 Monitorinq

Monitoring is defined as an ongoing
population trends of rare species.
status and trends of rare species.
groups 50 that spatial and temporal

program to determine the status and
The monitoring program will identify the
Standardized methods must be used by all
trends can be identified and compared.

The ultimate role of monitoring is tracking progress toward recovery.
