A comprehensive genetics program is <br />being conducted as a part of the Upper Basin RIP that includes the San Juan <br />River Basin. The results of this program will be incorporated into decisions <br />regarding future reintroductions in the San Juan Basin. <br /> <br />3.6.4 Selected Course of Action <br /> <br />a. Intensive studies will be conducted to determine relative abundance of <br />endangered fishes. other native and non-native fishes. <br /> <br />b. Reproduction and recruitment, if any, will be documented. This <br />information will be used to evaluate the need for augmentation of <br />existing populations. <br /> <br />c. If augmentation is determined to be needed and has the potential for <br />success, rare fish will be stocked in the San Juan Basin. The stocked <br />fish will be marked and monitored to determine if they are contributing <br />to a long-term increase in population. <br /> <br />d. Hatchery broodstocks and protected refugia populations for the Colorado <br />squawfish or the razorback sucker will be enlarged by capture of wild <br />individuals. Genetic diversity will be maintained in the broodstocks <br />and refugia. <br /> <br />e. Development of hatchery stocks. refugia, and hatchery production will be <br />fully coordinated with the on-going Upper Basin Recovery Implementation <br />Program. <br /> <br />f. Procedures for producing the rare species in hatcheries for the program, <br />if needed. will be developed using information from the Upper Basin <br />Recovery Implementation Program and will include: <br /> <br />1.
