Air Quality Control Commission and Division <br /> <br />The Air Pollution Control Division has the responsibility to enforce State <br />air pollution control statutes and regulations of the Air Quality Control <br />Commission, to provide technical advice and services on air pollution, <br />problems and on control techniques, and to conduct research and studies on <br />the causes, sources, and control of air pollution. The Air Quality <br />Control Commission is the State's air pollution control policy and <br />regulatory body. Its nine members are appointed by the Governor. <br /> <br />d. Waste Management Division <br /> <br />The Waste Management Division administers hazardous waste and nonhazardous <br />waste programs in the State. This includes: assisting EPA in permitting <br />hazardous waste disposal facilities; inspecting and monitoring hazardous <br />waste disposal to ensure compliance; responding to environmental <br />emergencies (i.e., chemical spills, etc.); reviewing nonhazardous waste <br />disposal facilities; and providing technical assistance to the Mined Land <br />Reclamation Board in permitting of energy and mining facilities. The <br />Waste Management Division provides staff support to the Hazardous Waste <br />Committee established by C.R.S. 1973, 25-15-302. <br /> <br />e. Radiation Control Division <br /> <br />The Radiation Control Division administers radiation control programs in <br />the State. The Division is responsible for the licensing of uranium <br />mills, processing activities, and other facilities which process or handle <br />radioactive materials in Colorado. It also supervises the development of <br />remedial programs for radioactive waste disposal activities in the State. <br />The Colorado Board of Health provides policy direction for' the Division. <br /> <br />f. Disease Control and Epidemiology Division <br /> <br />The Disease Control and Epidemiology Division is responsible for the <br />investigation of the causes of human illness and the design and <br />implementation of disease control procedures. The Division has ongoing <br />programs in the areas of tuberculosis control, zoonoses control (i.e., <br />control of animal-borne diseases), immunization, venereal disease control, <br />and chronic diseases. <br /> <br />g. Consumer Protection Division <br /> <br />The Consumer Protection Division is responsible for protecting consumers <br />from various health hazards. This includes inspections of public <br />accommodations, food manufacturers and warehouses, dairy farms and plants, <br />food service establishments, retail food markets, child care centers, and <br />other consumer product safety activities. The Division also provides <br />technical assistance in drinking water protection and insect and vector <br />control. <br /> <br />2. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) - Region VIII, <br /> <br />The EPA is a Federal regulatory agency responsible for air and water <br />quality, waste management, pesticides and radiation.
