PROJECT FEATURES

The Colorado-Bie; Thompson Project is one of the largest and
most iInportant transmountain projects undertaken by the Bureau of
Reclamation. Briefly, the project features are designed to
collect surplus runoff on the western slde of the Continental
Divide, to transport such waters to irrigation facilities located
on the opposite side of the mountain range, and to utilize the
power potential created by the falling waters as they drop down
the Eastern Slope from the hig}' elevation of the Alva B. Adams
Tunnel to the plains area below. Replacement features safeguard
Western Slope water users against infringement on their water
supply by project diversions. .

Arranged in the approximate order of their natural sequence
with respect to the flow of project water from source to destina-
tion, completed and contemplated features of the project are
summarily described under the following designations: Western
Slope Replacement Storage and Improvements; Colorado River Collec-
tion ~ Storage System; Alva B. Adams Tunnel; Estes Park Aqueduct
and Power System; Estes Park-Foothills Power System; Foothills
Storage and Supply System; and Power Transmission System.
