Remaininq Water Resource Problems and Needs

Additional flood control is needed as is land treatment to reduce si Itation.

Project Costs

.

The estimated total cost of this project would be $54,970,000. The Irrigation cost would
be $41,910,000 and recreation costs would be $11,861,000 with $2,630,000 repaid by the state.

Operation. Maintenance and Replacement

Operation, maintenance and replacement of the Irrigation facilities would be the responsi-
bi lity of a local sponsor.
Operation, maintenance and replacement of the recreation and fish and wi Idl ife faci Iltles
would be the responsibi lity of a non-federal entity.

Loca I I nterest and Support

Local Interest in this project is presently concerned with flood prevention and control
and present interest in other functions is not widely evident.

Existlnq Resource Development in the Area

Water resource development is rather limited in this area. No nearby project irrigation
has been developed.
A few flood protection faci I Itles have been developed in this area. Existing works are for
local protection and consist mostly of channel straightening and some diking around towns.

Effeci on Water Supplv in Project Area

Operation of this project would include sufficient releases to meet al I existing down-
stream water rights. The installation of the project would decrease the average flow of the
Elkhorn River below Warnervi I Ie Diversion Dam about 40 percent causing an adverse effect on the
fishery immediately below the point of diversion.

.

2-14
