Development Impacts

There will be several impacts to the environment, to users of
CSH 6~and to residents as a result of the construction of the dam,
spillway, outlet works, reservoir, and relocated road. Temporary
inconvenience but no serious interruptions could be experienced by
travelers on CSH 64 during the relocation phase due to necessary
detours. Minor air pollution will occur in the form of dust during
construction of the dam and the relocated highway, and from smoke
that will be generated during reservoir clearing operations. As a
result of the construction, including excavation in borrow sites,
approximately 200 acres of land will be disturbed and exposed to
greater wind and rainstorm runoff erosion. Temporary and minimal
pollution of the waters of the White River will occur during work
on the dam foundation, temporary diversion facilities, spillway,
and outlet works.

The residents of the reservoir basin consisting of four
families will have their lives disrupted as their homes are purchased,
and they will be required to relocate. Nearly 600 acres of grazing
and croplands, including lands used for raising of winter feed for
livestock, will be eliminated.

Animals which may inhabit the dam and reservoir sites and which
may be displaced by the construction of the dam, relocated road, and
by filling of the reservoir are beavers, ducks, geese, marmots, musk-
rats, pheasant, rabbits, raccoons, shorebirds, and other small mam-
mals such as chipmunks, ground squirrels, snakes, lizards, magpies,
and songbirds. It is anticipated that most of these animals will be
displaced to adjacent or nearby undistrubed areas while a few may be
destroyed. There are no endangered species of either plant or animal
life within .the reservoir area, although two Colorado squawfish were
collected by researchers at an upstream sa~pling station near Rio
Blanco Lake in 1978.

III-2
