Land Form and Unique Physical Features <br /> <br />The White River from Meeker to Rangely flows through some extremely <br />rugged lands. sparsely covered with vegetation. Some of the features <br />surrounding the dam and reservoir site are: Hatch Flats and Coal Ridge <br />to the northeast; Calamity Ridge to the east; Piceance Creek basin to <br />the southeast; Cathedral Bluffs to the south; Douglas Creek and Pinion <br />valley to the southwest; Coal Oil basin and a large valley to the west; <br />and Coal Oil Rim to the west and northwest. <br /> <br />The dam site is at elevation 5200 feet msl; Hatch Flats is 5400 to <br />5600 feet msl; Coal Ridge is about 6000 feet msl at its westerly ex- <br />tremity; Calamity Ridge is about 8200 feet msl; Cathedral Bluffs go up <br />to 8700 feet msl; Coal Oil basin ranges from 5200 to 5300 feet msl; and <br />Coal Oil Rim is approximately 5800 feet msl, <br /> <br />11-14 <br />
