000886

.

.

provide for excess capacity rights in Western's Shiprock to Durango line, and

permit flow of Colorado River Storage Project allocations into the southern

end of Colorado-Ute's "backbone" system, which now terminates at Durango.

CRSP power and energy (from Flaming Gorge) flows into the northern end of

Colorado-Ute's system over USBR lines to the Hayden substation, which is lo-

cated midway between Craig and Steamboat Springs in northwest Colorado.

Colorado-Ute also receives power for use by its members from the Collbran hydro~

plant of the USBR near Grand Junction. and may generate up to 39,000 kilowatts

at its Nucla Station. near Nucla, Colorado.

A new 15.000 square foot addition to the headquarters building in Mont-

rose brought the total investment in property there to $500,000. The new addi-

tion houses a Dispatch Center from which all flows of electricity throughout the

Colorado-Ute system are metered and controlled.

Employees required to operate the generation and transmission network

have tripled in numbers (from 33 at the end of 1963 to 114 at the end of 1964),

and Colorado-Ute is now meeting an annual payroll throughout Western Colorado

of over $900.000.

Large investments by Colorado-Ute in its system means new tax dollars

for support of school districts and counties throughout Western Colorado. Prop-

erty taxes for 1964 are nearly $250,000, and the 1965 taxes are expected to ap-

proach the half-million mark. Colorado-Ute is paying $106,132.07 in 1964

Montrose County property taxes alone, according to records in the office of the

County Treasurer.

-2-

-"
