<br /># 000887 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />In addition to moving from a construction stage to operations, Colorado- <br /> <br />Ute is working closely with one of its members, Salt River Project of Phoenix, <br /> <br />Arizona, as Salt River's plans near completion for a 225-megawatt plant adjacent <br /> <br />to Colorado-Ute's 150-megawatt station at Hayden. Common facility agreements <br /> <br />are being worked out, and western Colorado's coal industry will receive another <br /> <br />economic boost. (Colorado-Ute's first unit will require 1/2 million tons of "oal <br /> <br />annually, and coal deliveries are being stockpiled right now at the station at the <br /> <br />rate of ap:'roximately 2,000 tons daily.) <br /> <br />Growth throughout Western and Southwestern Colorado made it necessary <br /> <br />for Colorado-Ute to "heavy-up" facilities and a $5, 352, 000 loan request to the <br /> <br /> <br />Rural Electrification Administration early in 1964 was approved by REA in June, and <br /> <br /> <br />by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission last October. The funds will be uti- <br /> <br /> <br />lized to construct new substations and high voltage lines required to serve grow- <br /> <br />ing system loads. <br /> <br />Service from Colorado-Ute to the Gunnison Valley area will start this <br /> <br />month, and to the San Luis Valley this spring. <br /> <br />-3- <br />
