" i!/J <br />COl :! 1985 <br />CONScRV%;'/~/licR <br />'IV BOAR/) <br /> <br />FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE <br />January 20, 1965 <br /> <br />A $30.5 million investment in rural Western Colorado is to start paying div- <br /> <br />idends in 1965, according to a report is sued recently by Colorado-Ute Electric <br /> <br />Association of Montrose, Colorado. <br /> <br />According to an annual progress report entitled, "Highlights of 1964, " the <br /> <br />non-profit corporation is now selling electricity at "wholesale" cost to eight elec- <br /> <br />tric utilities "retailing" it in rural and remote areas of Durango, Cortez, Nucla, <br /> <br />Delta, Montrose, Grand Junction, Glenwood Springs, Rifle, Meeker, Craig, and <br /> <br />Steamboat Springs. <br /> <br />Construction activity is in its final stages at the $23,900,000 Hayden Sta- <br /> <br />tion steam plant located midway between Craig and Steamboat Springs in the Yampa <br /> <br />Valley of northwestern Colorado. Necessary substations (nine) and over 200 miles <br /> <br />of high voltage transmission lines extending throughout Western Colorado have <br /> <br />been completed and energized. <br /> <br />The report sets a March 15, 1965, "on the line" date for the beautiful <br /> <br />150,000 kw plant to start turning out kilowatts at a cost cheaper to 13 member <br /> <br />systems than any other source available today. <br /> <br />Interconnection agreements with the Western Colorado Power Company were <br /> <br />approved in 1964 by Colorado-Ute's 26-member board of directors.
