Survey report recommended <br />a dam on Fountain Creek upstream of Pueblo, CO. The Phase I report recommended <br />channel improvements and levees on both banks of Fountain Creek through Pueblo, CO. <br /> <br />SPONSOR: City of Pueblo, CO, and Fountain Creek Commission <br /> <br />108, Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO - Main Stem <br />(Arkansas' River, .CO, Channel Improvement) <br />STATUS: Project authorized for Phase I stage of Advance Engineering and Design <br />by the Water Resources Development Act of 1974. Project will be addressed as <br />part of the Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO project. <br />Phase I studies for the Main Stem. project not yet started; scheduled for com- <br />pletion in FY 1989. <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION: Phase I GDM studies for Arkansas River and Tributaries above John <br />Martin Dam, CO, with emphasis on main stem. Survey report recommended channel <br />improvement of the Arkansas River main stem from Pueblo to Las Animas providing <br />lOa-year protection. The plan comprises a floodway 76 miles long with a <br />capacity varying from 19,000 t.r.t. near the upper end to 114,000 c.f.c at <br />Las Animas. Project features consist of an excavated unlined channel flanked by <br />earth levees throughout most of its length. <br /> <br />SPONSOR: Fremont, Pueblo, Crowley, Bent, and Otero Counties, CO. <br /> <br />109, Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO - La Junta <br />Local Protection Proiect, CO <br />STATUS: Project authorized for Phase I stage of Advanced Engineering and Design <br />by the Water Resources Development Act of 1974. La Junta Local Protection <br />Project interim has been addressed as part of the Arkansas River and tributaries <br />above John Martin Dam, CO project. Phase I studies for the La Junta Local <br />Protection Project interim are in progress and are scheduled for completion in <br />FY 85. These studies combine the survey report interims identified as Anderson <br />and King Arroyo and Reach 2 - Urban. Anderson and King Arroyo portion of the <br />overall plan lacks economic feasibility and has been discontinued from further <br />consideration. <br /> <br />DESCRIPTION: Phase 1 GDM studies for Arkansas River and tributaries above John <br />Martin Dam, CO, with emphasis on La Junta CO Survey report recommended channel <br />improvements along a portion of the Arkansas River to safely convey floodflows <br />through the City. Channel capacity would be increased to convey 170,000 c~f.s. <br />which would provide 310 year protection.
