This project was addressed as
part of the Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO project.
Phase I studies for the Florence Local Protection project were terminated in
FY 82. No economically feasible plan was formulated.

DESCRIPTION: Phase I GDM studies for Arkansas River and Tributaries above John
Martin Dam, CO, with emphasis on Florence, CO. Survey report dated 24 June 1968
recommended two earthfill dams and two diversion channels. The Coal Creek Dam
was located on Coal Creek about 1.3 miles upstream from the Arkansas River. The
other dam was Oak Creek Dam located on Oak Creek about 2.3 miles upstream from
the Arkansas River. Chandler Creek Division would have diverted flows from
Chandler Creek to Oak Creek Dam and Oak Creek Outfall Channel would divert the
flows from Oak Creek Dam to the Arkansas River via Chandler Creek. Studies
were terminated when the dam abutments were found to be structurally unsuitable
and downstream channel improvements to convey the increased flow were economically
infeasible.

SPONSOR: City of Florence, CO.

106, Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO, - Pueblo
Local Protection Pro;ect (Dry Creek), CO
STATUS: Project authorized for Phase I stage of Advance Engineering and Design
by the Water Resources Development Act of 1974. No feasible alternative has been formulated.

DESCRIPTION: Phase I GDM studies for Arkansas River and Tributaries above
John Martin Dam, CO, with emphasis on Pueblo, CO. Survey report dated 24 June
1968 recommended levees and channel enlargement along Dry Creek which f~ows through
the western edge of the City. The enlarged channel would have a capacity of 31,000 cfs.
Since project authorization, the City of Pueblo has removed damagable structures
to build a strip park along Dry Creek.

SPONSOR: City of Pueblo, CO.

107, Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO, -
Fountain Creek
STATUS: Project authorized for Phase I stage of Advance Engineering and Design
by the Water Resources Development Act of 1974. Study was addressed as part of
the Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam, CO project. Phase 1
studies for Fountain Creek Local Protection Project are complete.
