Survey report dated 24 June 1968
recommended 3,600 feet of intermittent levees and floodwalls along the right bank
of the Arkansas River and 3,250 feet of channel improvements since the survey re...
port was completed, extensive relocations of property have occurred in the flood
plain, reducing project benefits. The project was
addressed as part of the Arkansas River and Tributaries above John Martin Dam,
CO project. Phase I studies for the Brewster-Florence Floodway were combined with
the Florence Local Protection Project. Work on the Phase I GDM was terminated in
FY 82. No economically feasible plan was formulated.

DESCRIPTION: Phase I GDM studies were prepared for Arkansas River and Tribu-
taries above John Martin Dam, CO, with emphasis on Florence, CO. Survey report
dated 24 June 1968 recommended improvements on the Arkansas River from Brewster
to Florence. The improvements consisted of a south bank levee about 31,280 feet

long beginning about 3.5 miles above Florence, CO, and terminating 2.5 miles
downstream at the mouth of the Cocklebur Creek. The levee was designed to
provide laO-year protection. No structural nor nonstructural measures investigated
were economically justified.

SPONSOR: City of Florence, CO, and Fremont.County, CO.

13

I
.cJ
