001698

feet and direct7connected to a

kilovolt-!lllIpere

t~~e generator with direct connecte~ excitp.r and pilot exciter.

Water would be supplied to each turbine through a steel penstock ~prox-

imately 1,400 feet long, wit~ synchronous bypasses provides so that the

flow through the penstock can be discharged either through the turbines

or the bypasses into the Twin Lakes Reservoir. ~he b~~asses would be

mecharlicaJ.ly cOll1',ected to the turbine gats operating mechanism sO that

rapid gcverning of the units under varying load conditions can be

effected without creating exceseive water hammer. Trashracke with

shut-off gatee for each penstock would b~rovided in the forebay struc-
I

ture. The headgate would be controlled from the powerplant. A epill-

way would be provided to care for the flow when the headgatee are

closed and the penstocks inoperative. The plant >lould be e<'tutpped wi tb

all necessary auxiliarie s, 1ncl uding a traveling crane for, handling the

large pieces of equipment. A small machine shop would be provided for

making minor repairs. An outdoor type 6Ubstation with self-cooled

transformers would be provided for stepping the voltage up to

for transmission to cOMmercial markets. The substation structure would

be of the conventional etructural steel type with high voltage oil

circuit breakers, lightning arresters, and necess~ry auxiliaries. The

control of the oil circuit breakers would be from the main powerplant

owitchboard. Operators' ttUarters, a >larehouse, and a large machine

shop for general project repairs would be provid,ed in the vicini ty of

the powerplant.

41
