<br />001699 <br /> <br />Snowden Diversion <br /> <br />.1 <br />(-.),>1 tfl.,.~\' I;'rt '~.... <br />In order to dive~t the \;at~r from the Arkansas River into th&"p,,'fer <br /> <br />csn:a'!"<B:filt~i. a diversion dam would be buil t on the river at Snowden, <br /> <br />about 5 miles southwest of Leadville, in the T. 10 S., R. 80 W., the <br /> <br />sixth principal meridian. <br /> <br />The dam proper would be a concrete ogee type, 150 feet long at the <br /> <br />crest and 7 feet high. Dikes woul d exten tout l,200 feet on the east <br /> <br />side and 500 feet on the w~st side of the dam. Crest elevation is <br /> <br />9,300. Sheet piling would be needed to prevent leakage at the diversion <br /> <br />dam. <br /> <br />The dam would divert water into an unlined canal of 600 second-foot <br /> <br />capacity which would convey the water a distance of 10 mile~ through <br /> <br />terrain consisting of lOose gravel, river wash, and glacial material. <br /> <br />All drainages crossed by the canal would be intercepted. <br /> <br />The estimated cost of the diversion canal, including the diversion <br /> <br />structure, is $736,000. <br /> <br />Twin Lakes Reservoir enlareement <br /> <br />The exhting Twin Lakss Reservoir is located in the glacial valley <br /> <br />of Lake Creek about 2,000 feet downstream from the present dam in T. 11 <br /> <br />S., R. BO W., sixth principal meridian. The reservoir >Iould be enlarged <br /> <br />from a capacity of 54,g60 acre-feet to 260,000 acre-feet at high water <br /> <br />elevation 9,256 feet. The reservoir would flood 4,240 acres, including <br /> <br />7 mile. of State Highway No. 82 and the small village of Twin Lakes. <br /> <br /> <br />Both the highway and the village ~lould be relocat"d above the high <br /> <br />water elevation. <br /> <br />42 <br />
