The ca.r.al <br /> <br />would convey the water a distance of 19.2 miles through terrain con- <br /> <br />sisting mostly of glacial moraine to the penstock of the Elbert Power- <br /> <br />plant. Halfmoon Creek would be intercepted en route. <br /> <br />Total cost of the canal is estimated to be $I,568,OOO. <br /> <br />Elbert Powernlant <br /> <br />The ~lbert Powerplant would be located near the present Colorado <br /> <br />Highway No. 82, about 1/2 mile west of the town of Twin Lakes. A head <br /> <br />of 520 feet would be utilized by the powerplant. The draft tube would <br /> <br />be located below the normal water surface of the enlarged Twin Lakes <br /> <br />Reservoir in order to take advantage of the additional head created <br /> <br />when that reservoir is below the high water line.
