The 6:rlsting reservoir, <br /> <br /> <br />knO\<l1 aleo as the Turquoise Lake, is locsted on the Lake Pork o:(i'the <br /> <br /> <br />Arkansas River in T. 9 S., R. 80 W., Bixth principal meridian,about 5 <br /> <br />miles west of Leadville. It is owned and operated by the Colorado <br /> <br />Fuel and Iron Corporation. <br /> <br />The existing Sugar Loaf Reeervoir, located in a glacial valley, <br /> <br />would be enlarged from a capacity of 16,930 acre-feet to 117,OOO acre- <br /> <br />feet at the normal water surface elevation of 9,880 feet. Extending <br /> <br />4 miles up Lake Fork, it would inundate 1,550 acres of land. It would <br /> <br />be necessary to relocate about 3 milee of gravel-surfaced Aecondary <br /> <br />State Highwa.y Ho. 104. <br /> <br />Enlargement of the reservoir would be effected by th.. constructi,on <br /> <br />of a 140-foot combination earth and rock-fill dam about 1,000 feet down- <br /> <br />stream from t~e exiating dam. The outlet capacity would be 800 second- <br /> <br />feet and the spillway capacity, 2,000 second-feet. <br /> <br />The estimated cost of enlarging the Sugar Loaf Re"ervoir is <br /> <br />$6,851,000. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />39 <br />
