<br />. , <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />OOlGti,~ <br /> <br />Progress on the SlUT PROJECT is moving along according to schedule. <br /> <br />At Rifle Gap Dam, excavation for the spillway stilling basin, excavation <br /> <br />J <br /> <br />in borrow areas, placement of dam embankment, and concrete placement in <br />the outlet vorks tunnel lining continues. <br /> <br />Work also moves ahead at a satisfactory rate on the Silt Pump Canal <br /> <br />and the David Ditch. Leland C. COfer, dba Varulco, of Grand Junction, <br /> <br /> <br />was awarded the contract for construction of the Silt Pumping Plant. <br /> <br />The pumping plant vill have a lift of 210 feet and vill be constructed <br /> <br />at the end of a 4,OOO-foot-long inlet canal from the Colorado River, <br /> <br />about two miles east of the tovn of Silt. The 8.l-mile-long Silt Pump <br /> <br />Canal vill extend northwest from the pumping plant, conveying irrigation <br /> <br />water to lands on the laver portion of Harvey Mesa. <br /> <br />CRSP Reservoirs <br /> <br />Runoff of the Colorado River above Glen Canyon Dam totaled 11,810,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet for the April through July period, Of this total about 6,400,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet was released from Iake Pavell. This permitted Iake Mead to <br /> <br />regain storage to rated head of the turbines by June 23. However, Lake <br /> <br />Powell continued to rise and on August 10 reached its seasonal maximum <br /> <br />elevation of 3,533.90 feet m.s,l. with 8,715,000 acre-feet of surface <br /> <br />storage. Since August 10 the lake level has receded to elevation <br /> <br />3,531 feet m.s.l. with 8,534,000 acre-feet surface storage on Octobe~ 17. <br /> <br />The lake level vill continue to decline to an est:lJnated elevation of <br /> <br />about 3,517 feet by March 30, 1966. <br /> <br />Initial filling of Blue Mesa Reservoir is scheduled to begin on <br /> <br />October 25. There is essentially no demand for irrigation water below <br /> <br />2 <br />
