A sixth unit <br />is expected to be on the line during October with Units 7 and 8 follow- <br /> <br />,. <br /> <br />ing in four-month intervals. Construction vas recently started on the <br /> <br />permanent visitor center complex--a Joint undertaking of the Bureau of <br /> <br />Reclamation and the National Park Service. <br /> <br />Work is progressing rapidly on the CURECANTI UNIT. Overall percentage <br /> <br />of completion of the prime contract for BLUE MESA DAM and Powerplant is <br /> <br /> <br />about~ percent. Placement of the dam embankment is essential~ com- <br /> <br /> <br />pleted, and the exterior structure of the powerplant is nearing com- <br /> <br />pletion. Invitations have been issued to contractors to bid on completion <br /> <br />of the Blue Mesa Poverplant, including installation of turbines, genera- <br /> <br />tors, and other electrical equipment, and to construct the switchyard <br /> <br />for the plant. Bid opening date is set for October 28, 1965, <br /> <br />At MORROW POINT DAM, excavation for the dam foundation has been com- <br /> <br />pleted, and on September 3 the first bucket of concrete was placed in <br /> <br />the dam. This represents the first of 360,000 cubic yards needed to <br />~\\J' \,,; ~ cClllIplete the 465-foot-high structure.
