A-Jr

4. Selection of sites within selected river segments for initial focus of
acquisition and/or restoration efforts.

a. Green River

Mv recommendations:

1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
7)

Old Charlie Wash (no acquisition required; site needs a fish
harvest kettle; structures need repair)
Leota L-7 (no acquisition required; restoration only)
Johnson Bottom (no acquisition required; restoration only)
Wyasket Bottom (no acquisition required; restoration only)
Snow's property (privately-owned; both acquisition and
restoration required)
Sheppard Bottom (no acquisition required; restoration only)
Other (acquisition and/or restoration required: I recommend
focusing on the river segment between Brennan Bottom (RM 264)
and Jensen (RM 305)).

b. Colorado River

1) Griffith's (privately-owned; both acquisition and restoration
required)
2) Gravel Pit at 30-29 Road (privately-owned; both acquisition and
restoration required)
3) Adobe Creek (privately-owned; both acquisition and restoration
required)
4) Walter Walker (no acquisition required; restoration only)
5) Moab Slough (no acquisition required; restoration only)
6) Other (acquisition and/or restoration required: I recommend
focusing on the river segment between Fruita and Palisade).

5. Acquisition and Restoration

a. Acquisition

Much of the floodplain, especially in the Jensen area of the Green
River and the Grand Valley area of the Colorado River, is privately-
owned. I would recommend acquiring interest in properties within
these areas (from willing sellers). In general, I would recommend
that floodplain properties on the Green River would be higher
priority than on the Colorado River (because of the existing
razorback population); properties which flood at lower flows would
be higher priority that those which require higher flows;
depressions that are "easily connectable and drainable" would be
higher priority than terraces; and areas with properties available
on both sides of the river would be higher priority than areas with
property available only on one side of the river. All candidate
properties would need to pass the screening tests, of course.

3
