His talk included inf'ormation about <br />state groundwater .anagement programs. <br /> <br />Hary Gearhart. Senior Scientist. Geraghty and Hiller, Inc. <br />(Groundwater Consultants), Denver, Colorado, gave private <br />sector'sview. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. gave a slide <br />presentation of' an overview f'or ~he Arkansas River Basin, <br />Arkansas and Oklaho.a, Feasibility Study. The purpose of' <br />this study was to estimate the impacts of' changes in project <br />f'unctions under alt..rnative operating plans. I..pacts in <br />navigation, 1'lood control, hydropower recreation among other <br />purposes are being assessed. The study is to be completed <br />in 1990 and would then be subject to appropriation of' f'unds <br />to i.pl....ent the reco.mended operating plans. <br /> <br />John Sparlin, Chief of' Economics Branch, Tulsa OiStl'ict <br />Corps of' Engineers, speaking f'or the Oklahoma Ar..y National <br />Guard, presented slides and narrated how the National Guard <br />uses barg..s to transport their equip..ent. In additiun to <br />saving taxpayers money, public safety is enhanced, equip..ent <br />wear and ~ear is reduced1 and mili~ary readiness is <br />improved. This initiative on the Arkansas River in Arkansas <br />and Oklahoma has impact on the entire 25,000 miles of inland <br />waterways and about 30 states. <br /> <br />-7- <br />
