1132

Pueblo Reservoir

.

Reservoir Inflow

Inflow to Pueblo Reservoir is broken into tv.o sour,Ces: (1) natural flow
is oonsidered the native flow of the Arkansas River at Pueblo Dam plus
upstream reservoir water being passed downstream, :and (2) Project water
for storage in Pueblo Reservoir.

Upstream reservoir water, inCluding Project water sold to the South-
eastern Cblorado Water Cbnservancy District, is a small percent of the
total flow of the Arkansas River at Pueblo Dam therefore it is ronsidered
part of the natural flow.

A probability curve for the natural inflow to Pueblo Reservoir was
=nputed by the IDg Pearson rrethod and is shown graphically on Exhibit
3.

Annual inflow of a IT'agnitude that is equaled or exceeded 50 percent of
the time was oonsidered the rrost probable inflow, that with a 90 percent
chance of being equaled or exceeded was considered to be the reasonable
minimum, and that with only a 10 percent chance of being equaled or
exceeded was considered the reasonable IT'aXimum.

The annual inflow was distributed rronthly according to the averages
based on historical records for the years 1955 through 1974.

.

Winter Water Storage Program

'l'h3 di tell CCIlq?anies below Pueblo Dam failed to reach an agreerrent for a
Winter Water storage Program for water year 1978.

Minimum Reservoir Release

The natural flow of the Arkansas River will be passed through the reservoir
except for that water storable by decree. Before any natural flow can
be stored in Pueblo Reservoir, sufficient water must be in the Arkansas
River to assure filling of the conservation pool of John Martin Reservoir,
and all senior rights between Pueblo Reservoir and John Martin Reservoir
must be satisfied. Project water released froi\l Turquoise Lake to rreet
mi.ni.Irun flow requirerrents in Lake Fork Creek will be stored in Pueblo
Reservoir.

Reservoir q:>eration

Water stored in Pueblo Reservoir under teIlporary storage contracts will
be released after an order has been placed with the Division Engineer.

.

12
