The Redbank and Fancher Creeks <br />Flood Control Study was forwarded in May 1981 by OCE and OMB to the Secretary <br />of the Army for approval. <br /> <br />6. Humboldt River and Tributaries Project, .Nevada. There is currently no <br />action being taken on the Humboldt River and Tributaries Flood Control.project. <br /> <br />7. Puerco River and Tributaries, Gallup, New Mexico. The Puerco River Flood <br />Control and Recreational Development Study was approved by the Board of <br />Engineers for Rivers and Harbors in January 1981. <br /> <br />MISCELLANEOUS: <br /> <br />1. 1984; Olympics, Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles District is <br />awaiting comments from the City of Los Angeles regarding a'joint EIR/EIS for <br />new and refurbishment projects. No decision has yet been made regarding the <br />Corps' involvement in preparation for the 1984 Olympics. <br /> <br />2. Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors. General Homer Johnstone, <br />Division Commander of the South Pacific Division of the Corps of Engineers, <br />has been appointed a member of the Board of Engineers for Rivers and Harbors. <br />His first meeting as a Board member will be in September 1981. .The Board is <br />an indep,endent review body for civil Works projects for the.Corps of Engineers <br />and consists of a Resident Member, five Commanders from Division level Corps <br />offices, and the Deputy Chief of Engineers as the Board Chairman. <br /> <br />3. National Waterways Study. The draft final report of the National <br />Waterways Study has been distributed and is being reviewed by the Corps of <br />Engineers and other interested government agencies. The final report is <br />expected to be issued in December 1981 and is expected to provide . <br />recommendations for prioritizing improvements to inland navigation. <br />Recommendations are also expected with respect to safety features for the <br />inland navigation systems. A programmatic environmental impact statement will <br />accompany the final report. <br /> <br />4. National Hydropower Study. The National Hydropower Study is designed to <br />identify the opportunities for increasing the hydroelectric power in the <br />United States. The focus is upon those projects under the jurisdiction of the <br />Department of the Army. The study will also identify those parameters <br />(economic, social, and environmental) which would limit the nation from <br />developing its full hydroelectric power potential. The study is currently in <br />draft form and has been sent to the Corps of Engineer's Division Offices for <br />in-house. review. A revised draft will be available for state review in <br />October with the final report due in Congress in January 1982. <br /> <br />4 <br />
