<br />003246 <br /> <br />3. National Program of Inspection of Dams. The Phase I Inspection Program is <br />nearing completion. At the end of June 1981, the State of California had <br />completed 117 out of 120 draft reports; Utah had completed 131 out of 134 <br />draft reports; Arizona had completed 83 of 89 reports; and all 25 reports are <br />complete in Nevada. At the end of this period, the number of unsafe dams <br />was: 3 in California; 75 in Utah; 12 in Nevada; and 24.in Arizona. <br /> <br />ADVANCE ENGINEERING AND DESIGN: <br /> <br />1. San Luis Rey.River, California. The Phase I GDM has been completed and <br />Phase II work was initiated in June 1981. <br /> <br />2. Santa Ana River Project, California. The Board of Engineers for Rivers <br />and Harbors approved the final Phase I GDM/EIS, with some modifications, in <br />June 1981. The Board preliminary decisions were to: (a) delete acquisition <br />of 84 acres of marsh intended for preservation of endangered species; (b) <br />restore five acres of beach to offset losses to expansion of the least tern <br />nesting area; (c) acquire up to 500 acres of additional juniper woodland near <br />the Mentone damsite as mitigation; (d) delete recreational lakes at Mentone <br />and Prado Dams: and (e) delete improvements to Oak S.treet Drain in the City of <br />Corona. <br /> <br />3. Pajaro River, California. A public meeting was held on 4 February 1981, <br />presenting the draft GDM and the proposed recreation plan. The recommended <br />plan is a 7000-foot levee on the left bank of the Pajaro River protecting the <br />City of Gilroy. <br /> <br />GENERAL INVESTIGATION PROGRAM: <br /> <br />1. Sacramento River Deep Water Ship Channel, California. The Board of <br />Engineers for Rivers and Harbors approved the feasibility report and Ers in <br />February 1981. The Chief of Engineers distributed the report to the Governor <br />and Federal agencies for formal review and comment in April 1981. Submittal <br />of report to the Secretary of the Army is anticipated in November 1981. <br /> <br />2. Oakland Inner Harbor, California. This study investigates the deepening <br />of the channel serving the containerization facilities. The Reconnaissance <br />Report was completed and published in February 1981. <br /> <br />3. Little Colorado River, Holbrook, Arizona. The Board of Engineers for <br />Rivers and Harbors approved the Final Feasibility Report recommending <br />improvements to the existing Little Colorado River levee system at Holbrook in <br />June 1981. <br /> <br />4. Cache Creek Basin Study, California. The Cache Creek Basin Flood Control <br />Report was forwarded in May 1981 by OCE and OMB to the Secretary of the Army <br />for approval. <br /> <br />3 <br /> <br />~- i.2' <br />
