<br />Senate [:Jill 1095 which would provide for continued water researctl <br /> <br />funding to Institutes lias received widespread support from the !.Xli versity <br /> <br /> <br />community. Last month, at the Annual National Meeting of the <br /> <br />!.Xliversities Council on Water Resources a resolution was unanimously <br /> <br />passed expressing support for Senate Bill 1095. The future of federal <br /> <br />appropriations to support Water Institutes and their research activlties <br /> <br />is still uncertain and until more is known it will be difficult to <br /> <br />undertake realistic long range research planning. <br /> <br />ONGOING REGIONAL RESEARCH PROJECfS <br /> <br />At the present time we have two continuing CWIC regional research <br />projects. Tne first is entitled "Predicting Crop Production as Related <br />to Drouglt Stress Under Irrigation." This is a cooperative undertaking <br />by utah, California, Arizona, and Colorado and is headed by John Hanks of <br /> <br />Utah. The second project is entitled "In Situ Oetermination of HydraullL: <br /> <br />Conductivity in the Vadose Zone Using Borehole Infiltration Tests." fhis <br /> <br />is a cooperative effort between Dr. Daniel Stephens (New Mexico) and <br /> <br />Or. Stl,[OIllO NelJman (Aruona). We intend to provide a detailed progress <br />report on these two projects a t the upcoming Las Vegas meeting in <br /> <br />December. <br /> <br />PROJECT PROPOSALS <br /> <br />We presently have six research proposals in various states of <br /> <br />completion that represellt regional efforts. They are as follows: <br /> <br />* LegallInsti tutional Aspects of Allocation of New and Newly Q.Jantif.led <br />Water Supplies and Reallocation of Existing SUpplies. <br /> <br />* Conjunctive Management of Surface Waters and Ground waters. <br /> <br />B-1? <br />
