Douglas James, <br /> <br />Director of the Utah Institute and current Chairman of CWIC, has asked <br /> <br />that I present the report for your business meeting today. <br /> <br />GENERAL COMMENTS <br /> <br />[tIC proposed cutbacks in federal funding to Water Institutes has been <br /> <br />a subject of major concern to the CWIC Directors in recent months. CWIC <br /> <br />Direct.ors along with otller Water Institute Oirectors in the country have <br /> <br />spent a considerable amount of time attempting to document the <br /> <br />e ffecti veness Q f the wa ter research program supported by OWHT in order to <br /> <br />justify continued appropriations. fhese efforts culminated in the <br />preparation of a document entitled "Impact of the University Water <br /> <br />I,esearch Program," March 1981. The report represented a synt.hesis by ct <br /> <br />task force of representatives from the National Association of Water <br /> <br />Institute Directors, The Univers.ities Council on Water Resources, and the <br /> <br />Water Resources Committee of the National Association of State <br /> <br />Universities and Land Grant Colleges. Information contained in this <br /> <br />document has been used on several occasions In testimony before various <br /> <br />cungressional comroittees whiCh are considering water resources research <br /> <br />fundin'J. <br /> <br />B-16 <br />
