<br />The water supply outlool:.for the 1962 irrigation season was good
<br />to excellent. The snow accUl1lUlation was near normal over all the
<br />mountain area. The snow accumulation in the Madison, Gallatin, and
<br />YellOl~stone Rivers area was about 20 percent above average. As
<br />compared to snow melt rUnoff for the spring of 1961, the headwaters of
<br />the Nissouri River above Three Forks, !lontana, is expected to produce
<br />twice as mch water.

<br />In the Central part of the Yellowstone River Basin in HYOIning, the
<br />runoff as related to normal, was expected to be as follows: DuBois
<br />110%; Bull Lake Reservoir - 119%; Big Horn Mountain Area - 130%.
<br />
<br />In the North Platte River Basin, the April 1 to September 30, 1962
<br />water yield at North Gate was estimated to be 165% of normal. ,later in
<br />storage in the Upper South Platte River Basin was about 140% of normal.
<br />
<br />Forest Service activities related to the 1~ter resources, watershed
<br />protection, flood prevention, and erosion and sedilnent control are
<br />presented in the three major categories of assigned responsibilities
<br />of (1) Administration of National Forests and National Grasslands,
<br />(2) State and Private Forestry Cooperation, and (3) Forest, Range,
<br />and Watershed Research. .
