In this five- <br />state market area, peak 10 d requirements by 1980 are expected to <br />be approximately 18 times the electric power output of the project, <br />thereby assuring a ready arket for project power. The sale of this <br />power will finance the all-i portant irrigation features of the Upper <br />Colorado River Basin. <br /> <br />Investor..,Owne <br /> <br /> <br />Utility Support <br /> <br />Prior to authorizatio , investor-owned electric utilities of the <br />Rocky Mountain Area sup orted this project and made certain engi- <br />neering studies and conse uent proposals to Congress for coopera- <br />tion with the Federal go ernment relative to the disposition and <br />marketing of electric ener y. These companies recognized the fact <br />that this area is basically a semi-arid region, and that its ultimate <br />development is keyed to t e controlled availability of water in suf- <br />ficient quantities and of a equate quality to accomplish maximum <br />utilization of the region's atural resources.
