<br /> <br />COLORADO RIVER STO A6E PROJECT <br /> <br />In 1956, Congress passed Public La 485, which authorized the <br />Colorado River Storage Project. The int nt of Congress in passing <br />this Law and the purpose of the Project i given in the first sentence <br />of the Act, which is as follows: <br /> <br />"That, in order to initiate the compreh nsive development of <br />the water resources of the Upper Col rado River Basin, for <br />the purposes, among others, of regu ating the flow of the <br />Colorado River, storing water for eneficial consumptive <br />use, making it possible for the States f the Upper Basin to <br />utilize, consistently with the provis'ons of the Colorado <br />River Compact, the apportionments made to and among <br />them in the Colorado River Com act and the Upper <br />Colorado River Basin Compact, resp ctively, providing for <br />the reclamation of arid and semi-ari land, for the control <br />of floods, and for the generation of droelectric power, as <br />an incident of the foregoing purpose " <br /> <br />This $1,085,000,000 project consists f four major storage units, <br />three of which will produce pow(fr-plu eleven participating irri- <br />gation projects, one of which will produc power. <br /> <br />The power producing structures with heir kilowatt capacities as <br />determined by the Bureau of Reclamatio , are as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />3 <br />
