GOVERNOR HERSCHLER: Thank you, Mr. Robison.

Mr. Crandall, ladies and gentlemen, for the record my

8 name is Ed Herschler. I'm presently Governor of the State of

9 Wyoming. Mr. Chairman, I appreciate the opportunity to comment

10 upon the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the savery-Pot

11 Hook project.

12 One year ago, I testified here before a Senate Appropria~

tions Subcommittee on Pub~ic Works and stated my support for the

14 project. I reaffirm that view today. In my earlier statement.

15 I noted the urgency of proceeding with this project from the

16 standpoint of protecting Wyoming's water rights and discussed a

17 number of economic, environmenta~, and recreationa~ benefits.

18 I also urged that the project sponsors and the Wyoming Game and

19 Fish Department attempt to negotiate their differences.

Several meetings have been held in this regard and I

think some progress has been made.
