I'm presently Governor of the State of <br /> <br />9 Wyoming. Mr. Chairman, I appreciate the opportunity to comment <br /> <br />10 upon the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the savery-Pot <br /> <br />11 Hook project. <br /> <br />12 One year ago, I testified here before a Senate Appropria~ <br /> <br />13 <br /> <br />tions Subcommittee on Pub~ic Works and stated my support for the <br /> <br />I.,,~ <br />I;..:'~':.~>' <br /> <br />14 project. I reaffirm that view today. In my earlier statement. <br /> <br />15 I noted the urgency of proceeding with this project from the <br /> <br />16 standpoint of protecting Wyoming's water rights and discussed a <br /> <br />17 number of economic, environmenta~, and recreationa~ benefits. <br /> <br />18 I also urged that the project sponsors and the Wyoming Game and <br /> <br />19 Fish Department attempt to negotiate their differences. <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br />Several meetings have been held in this regard and I <br /> <br />21 <br /> <br />think some progress has been made. <br /> <br />At a specia~ meeting of the <br />. <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br />Wyoming Game and Fish commission, which I chaired on February la, <br /> <br />23 <br /> <br />1976. the Commission expressed its desire that the project be <br /> <br />24 <br /> <br />buH t . <br /> <br /> <br />25 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The commission also noted a number of alternatives for. <br /> <br />. <br />
