We are p~easedand de~ighte

'>'-i
CO
CO

3 to have with us today the Honorable Ed Hersch~er, the Governor

4 of the state of Wyoming. and Governor Herschler. we will now ca~l

5 upon you at this time to present your statement.

6

GOVERNOR HERSCHLER: Thank you, Mr. Robison.

7

Mr. Crandall, ladies and gentlemen, for the record my

8 name is Ed Herschler. I'm presently Governor of the State of

9 Wyoming. Mr. Chairman, I appreciate the opportunity to comment

10 upon the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the savery-Pot

11 Hook project.

12 One year ago, I testified here before a Senate Appropria~

13

tions Subcommittee on Pub~ic Works and stated my support for the

I.,,~
I;..:'~':.~>'

14 project. I reaffirm that view today. In my earlier statement.

15 I noted the urgency of proceeding with this project from the

16 standpoint of protecting Wyoming's water rights and discussed a

17 number of economic, environmenta~, and recreationa~ benefits.

18 I also urged that the project sponsors and the Wyoming Game and

19 Fish Department attempt to negotiate their differences.

20

Several meetings have been held in this regard and I

21

think some progress has been made.

At a specia~ meeting of the
.

22

Wyoming Game and Fish commission, which I chaired on February la,

23

1976. the Commission expressed its desire that the project be

24

buH t .

25

I

The commission also noted a number of alternatives for.

.
