<br />\!!lliREAS, the Bureau of Reclamation, or the corps
<br />build a dam across the Platte rtiver approximately
<br />Morgan, Colorado, to be known as the 'Narrows Dam,
<br />
<br />of army engineers, proposes to
<br />eight miles northwest of Fort
<br />and
<br />
<br />\!REREAS, the proposed dam, if constructed, will destr~J approximately 6,000 acres
<br />of the most proauctive and highly imj.."Toved irrigated land in Idorgan County, in
<br />addition to depriving approximately 4,000 acres of land under the Riverside Ditch
<br />from a satisfactory market for farm products, &~d
<br />
<br />nlliRSAS, approximately sixty farmers under the Weldon Valley Ditch vrill be deprived
<br />of tl1eir homes and farms, and
<br />
<br />l'JH:..:REAS, three tOVIl1S, \.feldona, Goodrich and Orchard, will be wi thin the boundaries
<br />of thG Narrows Dam project and will be forced to evacuate, and
<br />
<br />VTllliREA3, Horgan County ;-,ill lose a large'"[Teage of valuable culti'Tated and irri-
<br />gatod land, and be deprived of the revenue and taxes derived from the use of this
<br />land, and
<br />
<br />\iHEREAS, the olde3t residents of Morgan County knOll of but one year during the last
<br />fifty years that any daT-age has been done to agricultural farm lands outside of the
<br />first river hottom, which is not productive, and
<br />
<br />l",REREAS, this proposed dam will necessitate mavin!.; 'Ue Union Pacific Railroad line
<br />for a distance of approximately thirty miles and constructing expensive ditches,
<br />roads and bridges, and
<br />
<br />\,~~EAS, the entire project is detrimental to the social and economic interests
<br />of this county,
<br />
<br />THEhEFOR~, Bt IT Rc~OLVED, that we vigorously oppose the building of the Narrows
<br />Dam project and urge Cl;r representatives and ~enators in Congress to use their
<br />best influence in preventing the construction of this dam; and that the Secretary
<br />of this Club be instructddto forward to each of our Representatives and Senators,
<br />a COPJ of this Resolution.
