\. '?,'(.. ~

quality, and social well-being and (b) to identify both the location and nature of specific
nonvolumetric problem issues which are expected to arise in each ASA, and water and
water-related land areas which should be studied for possible retention in their natural state
because of their recreational, scenic. or cultural importance. Activities to be undertaken are:

. Nalligation (CE with MARAD)-For 1975, 1985, and 1000, the adequacy of pro-
jected instream flow levels to support the projected volume of commercial traffic
will be evaluated for selected ASA's and the location of specific navigation prob-
lems within each selected ASA will be determined.

,r,

.

Recreation (USDI)-Water-related recreation, natural, cultural. and scenic re-
sources and areas of critical environmental concern which should be considered
for recreational use, preservation, protection, or enhancement will be identified
and described. Specific within each ASA, water-related recreation problem
issues and areas which should be further considered by the specific-problem
analysis will be identified.

.'

. Hydroelectric power (FPC)-For 1975,1985, and 2000, the ability of projected
instream flow levels to support projected hydroelectric generation will be evalu-
a ted in each ASA.

. Near shore marine and eSlllarine fish and wildlife resources (USDI)- The current
condition of and potential threats to estuarine and marine ecosystems located in
coastal ASA's will be analyzed.

. Wild and scenic rillers (USDI)-Existing wild and scenic rivers and others with
potential for such use will be identified and described within each ASA. Those
rivers and river segments of this group which would be adversely affected as a
result of increases in consumptive uses elsewhere will be identified.

. Wetlands (USDI)-Important wetland areas in need of preservation will be
identified and described. To the extent available, current wetland acreages will
be ex tracted from the National Wetlands Inventory and disappearance rates will
be projected. when feasible.

. Water quality (EPA)-1975 and 1985 central-case-related water quality problem
areas will be geographically described within each ASA.

.

Public lands (USDI and USDA)-Identify and describe, within each ASA, problem
issues and problem areas affecting existing or potential public lands or where
severe water adequacy problems or conflicts of use are expected to arise as a re-
sult of implementation of central-case assumptions.

,

. Indian resources (USDI)-Identify and describe, within each ASA, problem issues
and problem areas where severe future water adequacy problems or conOicts of
use are expected to arise as a result of projected future requirements and future
exercise of Indian reserved water rights.

17
